David Webster House
Troyeville was once home to many anti-apartheid activists, including David Webster. A government assassin killed Webster in 1989. The work was completed by a community of Webster’s friends under the artistic guidance of Ilse Pahl. David Webster House is an official Heritage Site, the perfect spot for anyone interested in history or design.

Ghandi House
Mahatma Gandhi, a political activist, once called Troyeville home. He and his wife and children lived there between 1904 and 1906. Today, you can still see this home they lived in. It’s a Victorian-style double-storey, 8 bedroom property with a sprawling verandah.

Fairview Tower
Johannesburg’s first fire tower was built in 1906! Commissioner Street in Troyeville leads to Johannesburg’s first fire tower. This 35-meter tower building was used to spot fires and dry out hoses. It is the only remaining fire tower in Johannesburg and one of the tallest.

Spaza Art Gallery
There is finally something for art lovers. Spaza Art Gallery is the spot in Troyeville for upcoming artists, sculptors and poets to show their art. The gallery is run by a non-profit organization that provides a place for artists to exhibit their work and network with other artists. This eccentric backyard gallery uses recycled materials. It has a plastic radio tower and a garden café. It reminds people of Troyeville’s bohemian roots while also addressing very real socio-economic struggles.
